The Fire
A major fire broke out on January 8, 2026, in the “5 Maji” area of Tirana, near the former Dinamo complex. It started in a warehouse and spread quickly due to flammable textile goods, destroying dozens of businesses and causing millions of euros in damage across a large area.
Firefighters managed to bring the situation under control after several hours, and fortunately no injuries were reported. The cause is believed to have been accidental, likely an electrical fault. Some rumors have also suggested that the fire may have been intentional, aimed at clearing space for new apartment developments, reflecting the rapid pace of construction in Tirana in recent years.
These were difficult days at the start of the new year for Albania, as heavy rainfall caused widespread flooding across the country, leaving it struggling between water and fire.
